Thoughts on “My Glorious”

For my fellow children of the 90s, “My Glorious” may be simply another worship song that you’ve heard one too many times. For other generations, it may make an entrance as a tune with a strange, minor-key intro that might sound a bit out of place in our usual church music style. Either way, here’s my heart on the matter.

For me, there’s often been something innately stirring in the way Delirious wrote a lot of their lyrics. You might call them sort of “feel it in your bones” thoughts. In this case, I love the huge imagery that this song uses. The world shaking with the love of God, the hugeness of who He is, and the display of His full power that we wait for and hope in– that one day He will fully “save the day”. I need to be reminded over and over again that God is changing the old for new, that He’s bigger than anything I will ever experience, and that He will win. Here’s another chance for us to sing about that.

My Glorious

The world’s shaking with the love of God
Great and glorious, let the whole Earth sing
And all You ever do is change the old for new
People, we believe that…

God is bigger than the air I breathe
The world we’ll leave
God will save the day and all will say
My Glorious!

Clouds are breaking, heaven’s come to earth
Hearts awakening, let the church bells ring
And all You ever do is change the old for new
People, we believe that…

God is bigger than the air I breathe
The world we’ll leave
God will save the day and all will say
My Glorious! My Glorious! My Glorious! My Glorious! My Glorious!

– Chris
