Prayer Tip #52

[From Lauris Shepherd, one of our Elders]

“The essence of prayer does not consist in asking God for something but in opening our hearts to God, in speaking with Him, and living with Him in perpetual communion.

“Prayer is continual abandonment to God.

“Prayer does not mean asking God for all kinds of things we want; it is rather the desire for God Himself, the only Giver of Life, Prayer is not asking, but union with God.

“Prayer is not a painful effort to gain from God help in the varying needs of our lives. Prayer is the desire to possess God Himself, the Source of all life.

“The true spirit of prayer does not consist in asking for blessings, but in receiving Him who is the giver of all blessings, and in living a life of fellowship with Him.”

– Sadhu Sundar Singh

I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.” -Psalm 16:2

Focus your gaze on Jesus this week and enjoy sweet communion with Him – knowing that He already knows all about your needs. Matt. 6:8

Prayer Tip #51

[From Lauris Shepherd, one of our Elders]

Last week’s prayer tip ended with, “You can trust Him, whatever your need.” Is that true? Do you really believe that?

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
– Matt. 28:18

Consider how Jesus demonstrated this claim in a few short chapters in Mark:

  • Teaching
Mk. 1:22 They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
  • Unclean/Demonic spirits
Mk. 1:27 …A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”
  • Sickness
Mk. 1:31,34 And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her …And He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.
  • Leprosy
Mk. 1:41-42 Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.
  • Authority/Power to forgive sins
Mk. 2:10-12 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— 11 “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” 12 And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed
  • Lord of Sabbath
Mk. 2:28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
  • Deformed bodies
Mk. 3:5 (Jesus) said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
  • Nature
Mk. 4:41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?”
  • Legion of demons
Mk. 5:15 And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.

You can trust Him, whatever your need. Bring it to Jesus.

Prayer Tip #50

[From Lauris Shepherd, one of our Elders]

Don’t forget our ½ Day of Prayer this Saturday Mar. 10 from 0800-1200 at Plaza Del Sol.

Prayer Tip #50

..we walk by faith, not by sight. – II Cor. 5:7

This possibly could be said of every person, much of the time. The real question is who/what is your faith in? Many times people are trusting in good luck, fate, themselves, someone else – depending on the situation.

What is the object of your faith? Is it trustworthy, proven faithful?

25 An arrogant man stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the LORD will prosper. 26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But he who walks wisely will be delivered. – Prov. 28:25-26

I’ve lived long enough to know I cannot trust myself. I want my hope and trust in the Unchanging God who made the heavens and the earth.

Abraham is our example, Romans 4:20,21 20 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.

My attitude and approach and consistency in prayer are all an indication of my faith.

For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” – Rom. 10:11

You can trust Him, whatever your need.

Prayer Tip #49

[From Lauris Shepherd, one of our Elders]

I’m looking forward to our next ½ Day of Prayer Saturday Mar. 10! Please join us if you can at Plaza del Sol.

Prayer Tip #49

“Up in a little town in Maine, things were pretty dead some years ago. The churches were not accomplishing anything. There were a few Godly men in the churches, and they said: ‘Here we are, only uneducated laymen; but something must be done in this town. Let us form a praying band. We will all center our prayers on one man. Who shall it be?’ They picked out one of the hardest men in town, a hopeless drunkard, and centered all their prayers upon him. In a week, he was converted. They centered their prayers upon the next hardest man in town, and soon he was converted. Then they took up another and another, until within a year, two or three hundred were brought to God, and the fire spread out into all the surrounding country. Definite prayer for those in the prison house of sin is the need of the hour.” – Dr. R.A. Torrey

Are you part of a praying band, praying for the salvation of lost people you know? Would you like to be?

Who will you ask to join you? Who is the ‘hardest’ person you know who needs Jesus?
