Prayer Tip: Receive God’s Blessings

Did you know that God is EAGER to bless you?  Meditate (think unhurried, prolonged, focused and with a will to understand and obey) on Isaiah 30:18.

“Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him.”

What’s the difference between longing for Him and just wanting His blessings/gifts?  God doesn’t just give good gifts, He gives us Himself!

And consider:

Psalm 31:19, “How great is Thy goodness, Which Thou hast stored up for those who fear Thee, Which Thou hast wrought for those who take refuge in Thee, Before the sons of men!”

Ok, how do we receive those blessings?

Call to Him:

Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Ask Him for them:

Matthew 7:11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

Believe He most certainly rewards those who diligently seek Him.

Heb. 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

And all the while give Him praise and thanksgiving!  He is worthy!

Phil. 4:6  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Prayer Tip: Confess Sins – Pray for One Another

James 5:14-16 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

I want to pass on a couple of thoughts about the words in bold.

Sin can have a role in sickness.  When we get sick possibly the first thing we should ask of the Lord, “Is there any sin involved in this sickness?”  And then Listen.  Confession of sin to God and one another is the pathway to victory for sin.  I John 1:9

Lingering sin hinders fellowship and our prayers.  So it makes sense that we should confess any sin (just as soon as we are aware of it) as a part of our praying.

Another thought from the verse is ‘pray for another so that you may be healed’.  I get the idea from this that if I have a need, I should think of someone else with a similar need and fervently pray for them.  It is in praying for another that my own need is met.

This is one of those powerful ‘one another’ principles in scripture.

Prayer Tip: First Talk to the One Who Has ALL Authority

Talk to God about people before you try to talk to people about God.  That’s the beginning of getting on the same page with God in helping others with real needs and dealing with our own problems as well.

Keep Matt. 28:18 in mind:

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”

We don’t really need to understand or even know what a person’s problem is to know that Jesus is the answer.  In the first few chapters of Mark we see Jesus demonstrating authority over every area – unclean spirits/demons, sickness/disease, cleansing/forgiveness for sin, law/Sabbath, physical malformation/handicap, any and all afflictions, Satan, nature/physical laws, and death itself.

He has ALL authority and is not threatened or frustrated by anything.

As you pray, believe that He is and that He will render the help that is needed.  Heb. 11:6
