He Can Help, and He Wants To.

Not long ago I had to begin my prayer time with “Father, I’m anxious and worried about several/many things.  HELP.  Help me to see You and know that You are with me and You care about these things too.”

Then I just happened to be at Luke 8 in my Bible reading plan…. Did you know that Jesus lived a normal human life and relied on the charity of others while He traveled and ministered?  He healed people of evil spirits and all kinds of sicknesses.  He dealt with family problems.  And when it comes to difficult people and impossible challenges with another person, can there be a bigger challenge than the man Legion (many demons lived in him)?  The threat of natural disasters – He instantly calmed a storm.  A woman with a medical issue beyond hope or help of any known medical solution – instantly cured.  A beloved only child – raised from the dead.

I think what He said to me that morning was vs. 25 “Where is your faith?” and vs. 50 “Do not be afraid (anxious); only believe (keep on believing).”  Whether my concerns are routine and mundane, temporal or eternal, life threatening/urgent, small or catastrophic – He knows them all, He’s bigger than all, and He’s got answers – He wants to help.

I Peter 5:7  “..casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.”

And then listen to understand if there is something further you need to do.

Prayer Tip: Satan Has No Power Over Children of God

Just a reminder as you pray and believe God for answers – as a believer, Jesus Christ (actually the Triune God) lives in you and Satan has NO power over you.  Consider (ponder, muse, chew over, savor, unhurriedly focus on) these verses:

I John 4:4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

Luke 10:18-20 And He said to them, “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.  ”Behold, I have given you authority … over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you. “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, …  but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.”

Hebrews 2:14-15 Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil; and might deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.

Satan is a liar and the father of lies.  His only power over believers is deceit, bluff, i.e. power you give him by believing a lie.

Jesus said, “All power has been given to Me in heaven and on earth…” Matt. 28:18

Keep looking at Jesus and believing Him for the answers.

Prayer Tip: “Greater works than these shall you do”

Think about the works of Jesus while He walked this earth.  Do you think you could do the same things?  Are you?  Then what does He mean when He says,

John 14:12-14 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater ”uc”>works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father.  “And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  ”If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

Are these verses not true?  Or do they not apply to me?  Or do I just not believe in Him?  Or does He mean something else than His miracles by ‘the works that I do’?  What does it mean to ‘ask in My name’?  I’d really like to know the answers.

Some of my thoughts are:  I really do believe in Jesus.  I’ve no doubt that I am a child of God and that I have eternal life.  So this promise is to me.

One of the elements involved in asking in His name is to ask for the things He is asking the Father for.  Many times that’s not obvious to me, so I need to ask Him what I can pray in His name.

He doesn’t say ‘when’ He will do it.  I get in a hurry and want instant results.

One of the measures of a ‘great work’ is longevity.  Many of the things I ask for are temporal.  Things that last are things like salvation, transformation in a life, forgiveness (both received and given), authentic worship of God, tears of prayer He ‘saves in a bottle’, ministry of the Word, etc.

Jesus said, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”  John 6:29

For the, ‘Ok, so what do I do?’, I’m left with praying “I do believe, help my unbelief.” (Mark 9:24) and to simply keep on praying, particularly Eph. 3:20 prayers – the beyond your greatest hopes and dreams type.  And thenWATCH and LISTEN to see what God does and to hear what God says.
