Prayer Tip: Are You Experiencing a Fearsome Storm (Overwhelming Adversity)?

Read Mark 4:35-41 when Jesus calmed the storm.  The disciples woke Jesus up with the question, “…do You not care that we are perishing?”  It sounded like they doubted His goodness and maybe His power. What did they expect Jesus to do?  Did they just want Him to express sympathy for their plight or actually do something and help bail water out of the boat?

Are you in the middle of a storm?  What do you fear? What do you want Jesus to do?  Would that really be the best and “fully satisfy” your need?  How do you know?

Jesus spoke to the wind and waves and all became perfectly calm – totally unexpected and beyond what the disciples had imagined possible.  Then Jesus asked the disciples, “Why are you afraid?”  What did Jesus want from the disciples?  What would faith look like with wind and waves sinking the boat?

What would faith look like in the midst of your storm? That may not be obvious…. but the passage suggests that at least we would not be fearful, that we would experience a profound peace in the midst of crashing wind and pounding waves.

We are to walk by faith and not by sight. Ask God for the gift of faith that gives you profound peace and sense of well-being in the midst of your storm.  Praise Him for what He’s going to do to fulfill His promise to ‘take you to the other side’.  Then you might ask if there is something you can do.

Prayer Tip: Wisdom is Supreme

Prov. 3:13,15b  How blessed is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding…nothing you desire compares with her.

Prov. 4:7  Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

I think of understanding mentioned here as seeing life from God’s perspective with wisdom having the added dimension of living life accordingly.

How do you get wisdom?

PRAY FOR IT.

Prov. 2:6  For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

James 1:5  But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

ENGRAFT SCRIPTURE.

Psalms 119:104 From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.

Wisdom/understanding leads to abundant living.  (John 6:63b  …the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.)

OBEY your way to understanding.

John 7:17 “If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or ”uc”>whether I speak from Myself.

Prov. 9:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Psalm 119:71 It is good for me that I was afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.

Prov. 28:5b  …those who seek the LORD understand all things.

Let’s pray, saturate our minds and hearts with scripture, and obey.

Prayer Tip: Prayers For Healing

Romans 2:4  Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

I was reproved in my spirit recently after I prayed for an unsaved person who has cancer.  I think my underlying thought was along the lines of “If this person has not honored God with his life, why should I ask God to extend it?”  While I confidently prayed for him to receive a clear witness of the gospel and to receive Christ by faith, I was doubtful about asking for healing and relief from his cancer.  (Praise God, He’s still working on me.  Ok?!)

Physical healing or financial help or deliverance from a hard place can be a wonderful ‘kindness of God leading to repentance’.  Is God willing to heal?

Romans 5:8  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

As Creator, God, Giver of Life, He can speak a word or with a touch heal any disease.  But He had to die for sins to be forgiven and offer eternal life.  He did that while we were enemies.

Matthew 4:24 …they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them.

I want to pray help and healing and blessing on the unsaved.  And I also ask that each person is made clearly aware that it is God who is doing it.

II Tim. 2:25-26 …perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.
